Post 18 Destinations Day – 21st April 2017

Our students engaged really well with a day that provided them with a number of  key skills needed for their post 18 destinations ranging from ‘first impressions’ and CV hints and tips.  The 'First Impressions' workshop led by Steve Coppin from The Lifeskills company was a very practical sessions which focused on the importance of non-verbal communication including handshake, eye contact, posture (sitting and standing) and smile.  It will undoubtedly help the students to enhance their confidence and presence when attending open days, interviews or meeting people in general.  Andy Irvine from Pearson Whiffen Ltd led a really informative and useful session on CV writing.  Some students bravely volunteered to have their CVs critiqued in an open forum!  In addition we were lucky enough to have Peter Cobrin from Employment Pathways to explain in more detail to the students about the range of apprenticeship opportunities.  Students engaged further with our 'Unifrog' platform to help their own research in the afternoon and then had the opportunity to meet with 30 visiting companies ranging in career opportunities such as Policing, Engineering, Accountancy, Army and Computing to name a few.
