Mary Eldridge-BCS-740

Letter from the Teaching Certificate Team (BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT)

We are pleased to inform you that Mrs Mary Eldridge has completed and passed the BCS Certificate in Computer Science Teaching.

The BCS Certificate in Computer Science Teaching gives teachers recognition of their teaching competence in the computer science elements of the new Computing curriculum. This requires an understanding of the domain of computer science and the development of appropriate pedagogical skills to teach the subject. The aim of the certificate is to recognise this.

To be awarded the certificate teachers submit three pieces of evidence.  These will demonstrate the following three competencies:

  1. A commitment to improving/maintaining subject knowledge and skills in Computer Science (by submitting a reflective log of relevant CPD).
  2. Computer Science knowledge and skills, including programming skills (by submitting a working programming project above KS2 (primary) or KS4 (secondary).
  3. Understanding of and application of pedagogical strategies suitable for teaching Computer Science, (by carrying out a classroom investigation and producing a report).

This accreditation is being implemented by Computing at School and is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute of IT.

I hope you will join us in congratulating Mary on her achievement.
