Mr S. Messenger: National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership

On the 19th December 2018, Sam Messenger, Head of Sixth Form was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership.

Sam was part of the first cohort through the new NPQSL programme and attended 5 sessions at the Institute of Education (UCL) as well as undertaking countless hours of reading aimed at supporting the development and implementation of his project and the further development of his Leadership and Management skills, which he has been successfully utilising since taking up the role of Head of Sixth Form in September 2018.

The focus of the project was “To increase attainment in the Sixth Form focusing on moving ‘C’ grades to ‘B’ grades”. This was achieved through the development of mentoring sessions using the GROW coaching model. He is now continuing to develop this project further through his action research group.

Sam passed all elements of this comprehensive training programme successfully, gaining full marks in 4 of the 6 sections, and was thus deemed ready for a role on a Senior Leadership Team.
