Exciting day at NKS

Dear Students,

This Friday, 22 September 2017, we have a busy and exciting day at NKS.

In the morning, a renowned film maker and alumnus of NKS, Martin Mortimore is coming into school to film footage of the school that will be used to make a promotional film of NKS. Martin Mortimore is also is the son of E.T. Mortimore, a former headmaster of NKS, which makes this opportunity even more special for our school. Mr Mortimore will be visiting a range of classes to film activities across subject areas. Before using the filmed material, we will check that your parents have given permission for you to be filmed.

On the same day, from 1.30pm, we have our Alumni Open Afternoon with sixth formers giving our guests tours of the school until 3.15pm. They are of all ages and many of them will not have visited the school since they themselves were a pupil many years ago. They may visit your classroom during lessons and may ask to see your work and how you are getting on. Please do talk to our guests and tell them what you are doing. We have ever growing links with our former students who regularly come into school to give talks to current students, participate in mock interviews or otherwise support our school community. This event is an opportunity to show them what we can be proud of here at NKS.

Between periods 5 and 6 and at the end of the day it is very important to move between lessons with full consideration for the guests that will be in corridors and on walk ways.

At 3pm, we have more guests arriving ahead of a special opening of our renovated buildings. We will have sponsors, governors and contractors attending and the official opening will be undertaken by The Rt Hon Damian Green, MP and The Mayor of Ashford. If you acted as one of our sixth form guides, and if you were a member of our School Council last year, look out for an invitation to attend this ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by an afternoon tea reception in the Knatch Hatch, at which there will be speeches from the Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as music by our students. Afterwards, guests will be able to view the school archives in the Ashfordian Library and spectate a football match on the field.

You are all key in making this special day a success, and I know that you will be excellent ambassadors for our school community.

Whether you are filmed, chat to those guests who visit your class, perform music to our guests, give tours, represent your year group or take part in the sports tournament, your support and participation on the day are much appreciated!

Best wishes,

Ms Staab
