WW1 Lecture

On Tuesday 23rd January, visiting military historian, Dr Timothy Bowman of the University of Kent, gave a lecture to Y11 GCSE History students. This was the first of two History lectures in one week put on as part of the school’s NKS ThiNKS lecture programme. The talk was a summary of some of the major features of strategy and tactics on the Western Front in WWI. Students were fascinated by Dr Bowman’s account of the frantic French army mobilisation in the summer of 1914, which involved, among other things, taxis from Paris. The current GCSE History course includes a topic on WWI and Y11 students were very grateful to Dr Bowman for generously giving up his time to share his expertise.
