At The Norton Knatchbull School, we are passionate about developing the next generation of exceptional teachers. 

As the Teach Beyond Hub School for the Ashford area, we play a leading role in recruiting, training and supporting aspiring teachers as they begin their careers. Through our partnership with Teach Beyond—a collaborative network of more than 250 schools across Kent and Sussex, working alongside the TES Institute—we are helping to shape the future of the profession. 

 

Teacher training at NKS is rooted in the belief that great teachers are developed through expert guidance, meaningful classroom experience and a strong sense of belonging within a school community. As a Hub School, we host and deliver Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) programmes, professional development opportunities and recruitment events, providing trainees with access to high-quality, practical training in a supportive environment. 

We have a long-standing reputation for excellence in Initial Teacher Training, having worked successfully with Canterbury Christ Church University and other training providers for many years. This experience has enabled us to develop a highly effective mentoring culture, where trainees benefit from the support of skilled practitioners, subject specialists and experienced leaders.

School Based Teacher Trainee Pathway. 

Academic Year 2027 to 2028. 

This is an unsalaried route, but DFE bursaries may be available depending on degree and subject area you wish to train in:  How to fund your teacher training | Get Into Teaching GOV.UK 

Training start date:  1st September 2027 to June 2028 

Closing date for applications: 24th  March 2027 

Successful candidates will need to meet the following minimum entry requirements: 

• Hold an undergraduate degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification. 

• Have achieved a standard equivalent to grade C/4, or above, in GCSE examinations in English and mathematics. 

• The Norton Knatchbull School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this post. 

Interviews will involve a combination of face-to-face and online with colleagues representing both Teach Beyond and The Norton Knatchbull School. 

Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.  Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, and The Norton Knatchbull School reserves the right to withdraw the training positions if early appointments are made.
