Year 7 Admissions
This section of our website is intended for new students hoping to start at The Norton Knatchbull School in September 2026 and those considering applying for September 2027.
Free 11+ Familiarisation Materials
The Norton Knatchbull School is proud to be open to students from all backgrounds.
To encourage even greater representation of children at NKS, we work in partnership with Atom Learning, the leading online Key Stage 2 learning and 11+ preparation platform, to provide students who are eligible for pupil premium with free online learning and 11+ exam preparation.
This programme is designed to familiarise children with the type of questions they may see on the Kent Test, and build technique and confidence. They'll be able to access KS2 and 11+ practice questions, learning resources, and practice papers through their Atom Home account.
If your child has been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years, please fill in the form by clicking the button below. They will be given free access to Atom Home when their pupil premium status has been verified by their primary school.

SEPTEMBER 2026 ENTRY
Congratulation to your son on passing the Kent test. We are excited to have them join us!
Please remember to put us first on your application form to have the best chance of gaining a place at the school.
Placements will be sent out on the 2nd March 2026 and must be accepted by 16th March 2026.
We will be in contact after this date to arrange entry details and information regarding our two Transition days in July.
If your son did not pass the Kent test
We are really sorry to hear this and understand this can be a stressful period. Should you wish to appeal the decision please remember to put our school down as one of your choices.
In March your choice will be rejected as not Grammar assessed. However, from here you will be able to lodge an appeal.
You cannot appeal for us if you do not name Norton Knatchbull on your application.
The appeal procedure is detailed here: Appeals
If you have any questions then please do get into contact with Mr Trafford - wtrafford@nks.kent.sch.uk
SEPTEMBER 2027 ENTRY
We will be welcoming Year 5 students to an Open Evening and two Open Mornings in June. Younger year groups are more than welcome to attend should you wish.
Open Morning 09:15-10:30 hours – Thursday, 11 June
Open Evening 18:00-20:00 hours – Thursday, 11 June
Open Morning 09:15-10:30 hours – Tuesday, 16 June
The Open Mornings will give you and your child a chance to view the school 'in action' with lessons ongoing. You will have a tour from a current Year 7 student who was in the same position as your child just two years ago.
The Open Evening differs from our Open Mornings as it includes a Headteacher’s presentation followed by a guided tour of the school. During the tour, you will visit all subject departments, each showcasing the learning journey your child should experience throughout their seven years at NKS.
We would advise prospective students to visit both an Open Morning and Open Evening.
A sign up sheet for the event will be created in Term 5 and this will also be sent to all local Primary Schools to circulate.
If you have any questions, please email the Head of Year 7 and Primary Liaison, Mr Trafford, at wtrafford@nks.kent.sch.uk
If you would like to get more of an insight into the Curriculum that we offer please look at our current Year 7 prospectus below or read The Knatchbull Baccalaureate page.
