Year 7 Admissions
This section of our website is intended for new students hoping to start at The Norton Knatchbull School in September 2027 and those considering applying for September 2028.
Free 11+ Familiarisation Materials
The Norton Knatchbull School (NKS) is proud to be open to students from all backgrounds.
To encourage even greater representation of children at NKS, we work in partnership with Atom Learning, the leading online Key Stage 2 learning and 11+ preparation platform, to provide students who are eligible for pupil premium with free online learning and 11+ exam preparation.
This programme is designed to familiarise children with the type of questions they may see on the Kent Test, and build technique and confidence. They'll be able to access KS2 and 11+ practice questions, learning resources, and practice papers through their Atom Home account.
If your child has been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years, please fill in the form by clicking the button below. They will be given free access to Atom Home when their pupil premium status has been verified by their primary school.

SEPTEMBER 2027 ENTRY
We all hope that the Kent Test results go as your family had hoped.
If your son passed the Kent Test:
Please make sure that you put The Norton Knatchbull School as First choice on your KCC school application to have the best chance of securing a place at the school.
Please remember that you must submit your choices by Monday 2 November 2026.
You will receive your allocated school on Monday 1 March 2027.
We will then have two transition days (Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July 2027) for your son. On the evening of Wednesday 30 June, there will be a Parent Information meeting. More details of these and the process to follow in March.
If your son did not pass the Kent Test:
You should still consider applying to The Norton Knatchbull School as one of your chosen schools. Especially if your son has passed multiple sections or was just under the overall pass mark required. This year's aggregate score needed was at least 345 with no single paper below 111.
This will result in you receiving a letter confirming your son was assessed as not suitable for grammar but assessed as suitable for a non-selective secondary school.
This will then allow you to appeal.
You cannot appeal if you do not name The Norton Knatchbull School.
Please do not name the school as First choice if you do not pass the Kent Test as you will jeopardise your Secondary School placement.
Placing The Norton Knatchbull School below first choice will not jeopardise your appeal decision.
Details of how to appeal and the process that follows will be in your assessed as not suitable for Grammar letter and will also be available on our school website in March.
If your son has not taken the Kent test:
If your son has not taken the Kent Test your son will still be eligible to take the Kent Test. This will not take place until after Tuesday 27 April 2027 and places will be offered after Post Allocation.
You will still have the right to appeal should your son be assessed not suitable for a grammar school. Our appeals this year will be heard online in May 2026.
Please do still name The Norton Knatchbull School but do not place us as first choice if you have not yet taken the Kent Test so as not to jeopardise your Secondary School placement.
Students moving into the area who have not applied to a school, as the date has passed, are still permitted to sit the Kent Test. They again will be offered a place after Post Reallocation.
If you believe that you are eligible to take the Kent Test later in the year, then please contact Kent Admissions (kent.admissions@kent.gov.uk) or our Admissions Officer, Mrs Seccombe directly (eseccombe@nks.kent.sch.uk)
SEPTEMBER 2028 ENTRY
We will be welcoming Year 5 students to two Open Mornings and an Open Evening in June. Younger year groups are more than welcome to attend should you wish.
The Open Mornings will give you and your child a chance to view the school 'in action' with lessons ongoing. You will have a tour from a current Year 8 student who was in the same position as your child just two years ago. The Open Evening is a more comprehensive visit to the school site and allows you to visit individual subject areas.
Dates for these and a sign-up sheet will follow in the New Year.
If you have any questions, please email Head of Year 7 and Primary Liaison at NKS, Mr Trafford, at wtrafford@nks.kent.sch.uk
If you would like to get more of an insight into the curriculum that we offer, please look at our current Year 7 prospectus below or read The Knatchbull Baccalaureate page.
